SAFE-Zoo-horizontalThe Topeka Zoo is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.  In AZA, “accreditation” means official recognition and approval of a zoo or aquarium by a group of experts. Only those zoos and aquariums that meet the high standards of the AZA can become members.  The Topeka Zoo is one of less than 235 zoos and aquariums who can state they hold AZA accreditation.  It is not an easy process and is a true honor when an institution achieves this status.

As an AZA accredited institution, staff have the opportunity to interact and share best practices with experts all over the country. Annually, Topeka Zoo elephant staff have and will attend various AZA conferences pertaining to elephant management, elephant foot care, elephant husbandry and more. In addition, the Topeka Zoo has summoned the expertise from several elephant professionals around the country in regards to evaluating and enhancing our current elephant management program.  Here is a link to some of the organizations that the Topeka Zoo collaborates with:
